She loved Rendon like a father, but somedays he could be a bit overbearing and recently he had become even more so. She understood that the war between the two sisters disturbed him, as family had always been extremely important to Rendon, but what she did not understand was that he was now throwing himself into studying alchemy and trying to drag Sonea with into studying it with him. She had nothing against the discipline of alchemy, it just made her uncomfortable that her mentor was becoming so obsessed with something that in her mind had nothing to do with helping Pandora win the war.
She rubbed her temples, attempting to get rid of a headache that had been bothering her for the past few days. She should probably go see a healer about that before it grew any worse. She suddenly felt the sensation of a hand slipping into her pocket. She whirled around to face the pickpocket, shocked to come across one in the imperial city. She saw that the culprit was a young boy who was at the most ten. She frowned, noticing that the boys clothes were of too high quality for him to need to steal anything from anyone. She lowered herself until her eyes were level with the boy's. "And might I ask why you feel the urge to steal?" she asked him softly, so that only the boy could hear her. The boy averted his eyes fron hers, glancing down at the ground. "I'm sorry, my friends dared me to steal something from someone in the crowd" he said, obviously ashamed of himself.
Sonea sighed at the boy's response, "Well next time your friends do that, you might not be so lucky to pick the pocket of someone as forgiving as I am" she said with a stern look on her face. Sonea knew that in her younger days she herself had been a thief, but her situation had been different. She had stolen to survive, if she had not stolen she would have starved to death on the streets of Odantton. Then Rendon would never have found her and she would never have become a sorceress. She stood up and felt the boy press something in her hand, she looked at her hand and saw it was her Jade ring, she frowned and shook her head before turning away from the boy and walking away. She wasn't sure what to make of the group of boys daring each other to steal from other people. She would have to mention that to someone before their dares got out of hand and put both their lives and the lives of others at risk. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •WORDS 465 TAGGED anyoneOUTFIT clothes TEMPLATE PANIC! Toreh had come to the Imperial City on a whim. After traveling for a while, and not even visiting his nation's own capital, he thought it was due time. And here he was. The city was bustling with trade and activity, and happiness was in the autumn air. Toreh smiled as he walked, with children running up to him, seeing their strange new visitor. He guessed he was a little different - a little haggard, but well nonetheless. Clad in black, white, and the gray between, he must look foreign. Tasegara was a different place, he thought.
The day still new, he began to wander the streets. He wanted something to do - someone to help, or maybe even a fight. He was itching to perform some magic. Toreh had tried not to use magic on his travels - he could stay hidden if magicians were looked down upon, and he liked the challenge of everyday life. Magic was helpful, but when you started hunting and making perfect shelters with it, life got boring. Toreh appreciated nature anyhow; it had been created right the first time, so why not use what it had to offer?
Toreh shook his head, returning to the present. As he made his way slowly through the crowd, he saw a small figure dart to an alleyway, abandoning a woman near the edge of the multitude. In the shadows, a few others were smirking and giggling. The figure turned, and Toreh could see the boy glance around for anyone paying attention before joining his friends. He saw a quick high-five before they vanished from his view. Toreh turned his gaze back to the woman, who was examining something clutched in her hand. As he shouldered closer to her, he called out, "Are you well?" He drew up to her side, and saw a flash of jewelry in her hand. He glanced back at the alleyway, and could see the boys slowly making their way off, their talking and laughing silhouetted backs ambling around a corner. Turning back to the woman, he noticed something else in her features. She seemed to know what they were up to. Memories, perhaps? "Hello?" he echoed again.

The life Sonea had been forced into was one she would not wish on her worst enemy. The streets was a harsh cold world that was extremely unsympathetic towards its inhabitants and left few casualties. She was still shocked at the fact that someone who lived in the Imperial City would pickpocket, but judging from their betting on it the boys probably saw it as nothing more than a joke. This careless attitude towards it, worried Sonea. A careless attitude towards pickpocketing could lead to more serious crimes such as armed robbery and murder. She was fairly certain that such crimes in the Imperial City would shock the citizens and cause fear among them.
Sonea didn’t notice the man at first; she was too deeply lost in her mind. She frowned examining the Jade ring, making sure the boy hadn’t damaged it. She silently sighed to herself, grateful that the ring wasn’t damaged. She knew that the boy might have gotten a massive fright if he had put the ring on and he wouldn’t be as carefree as he was now. She found it interesting that she had almost lost the ring in the exact same manner that she had gained it. Obviously fate had a twisted sense of humour and had needed to use her loss to gain a laugh. The fact of the matter was Sonea knew that the ring was more than a mere piece of Jewellery while the boy knew no better. She knew how terrifying the ring could seem for someone who wore it without knowing what powers were contained within the ring. Unfortunately, or fortunately the enchantment placed on the ring was extremely difficult to perform and there were few sorcerers let who were able to cast the enchantment.
She clasp the ring in her hand when she realised that there was someone standing close to her. She turned, half expecting one of the boys to be standing next to her, trying to steal something else from her. She saw a man standing there with a look of concern on his face, and suddenly realised that he had spoken to her. She waved her hand dismissively as she pocketed the ring with her other hand. “Oh, I’m fine” she said with a small smile on her face. “Just a bit distracted, that’s all” she added. Sonea didn’t want to exactly advertise the fact that she had been a pickpocket before becoming a sorceress. Apart from Rendon, few sorcerers knew about her true origins, most believed that she was the illegitimate child of a sorcerer. The truth was Sonea knew little about her birth parents, her father had left her mother before she was born and her mother had died soon after giving birth to her. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •WORDS 492 TAGGED Toreh, anyoneOUTFIT clothes TEMPLATE PANIC!
