Evangeline lay front down on a thick branch in the forest canopy. It had taken her most of the morning to climb up the large tree but she enjoyed the challenge. Her face lay cradled in a split were the large branch had sprout a smaller and created a fork. It just so happened her head fit nicely in the V of the branches and she could look down on the ground below. She wagered her climb had taken her up close to 100 feet, but who was counting really. Not that feet should be an accurate measurement anyway. Hers were far smaller then a registered ‘foot’. So who’s feet mad the first measurement of ‘foot’ and why the heck were they so special. Probably a human, there feet seemed about the right size in general, who died to decide there feet were the perfect measurement instrument. Stupid humans thinking there so great.
Heaving a heavy sigh she closed here eyes and felt her body lift up high as he lungs filled with the fresh oxygen of the forest. The purity of the trees gift to nature cycling through her own body to keep it alive. What a perfect puzzle. He mind finally switched tunes, no need to ruing a perfect morning with the thought of her hated human bloodline. As a breeze caught the leaves tousling them around as a mother would the hair of her child she felt the sweet dew of the mornings condensation drizzle over her skin and she nearly fell into a trance. Her heart slowed and her breathing became shallow as she listened to the clapping leaves of the trees and the ‘twrt’ of the morning cricket chorus. Distant birds began there morning chirps and would soon over take the lesser noise of the bugs whom went into hiding. For this brief and much anticipated moment though they all formed a morning orchestra to welcome the sun to the day.
Right on time that very solar mother peaked through the trees making dewy rainbows and intensifying the mist covered ground of the forest, its heat instantly throwing the temperature up and seeming to quell the wind to a gentile breeze. In a moment the morning was finally in full bloom as the birds songs took over the crickets melody and the mist began to vanish into vapor. The dew was drying and the transition was complete. A forty minute climb for a few seconds of natural perfection. It was worth it every time. Her breathing returned to a normal rhythm and her body began to heat in the fractions of solar rays that made it through the trees. Normally she would get up and make the trek down to go and enjoy some breakfast but for some reason she stayed this time. There was no rush and it seemed her choice spot had been one directly in the beam of sunshine.
Keeping her eyes closed and mind open she let the uv heat her core and remained in bliss milking it for as long as she could.

Alexandra slowly walked through the forest, her black cloak trailing behind her. Her wooden staff made a *thunk* sound everytime it hit the ground before her, and her hair swung in braids around her shoulders. She looked around at the beautiful day around her, the sun just peaking the horizon. This was her kind of day, and she looked forward to the long trek by herself. It would be relaxing to spend time alone, away from everyone that shunned her because of her parentage. It wasn't her fault that her mother was human while her father was an elf. Heck, her parents were dead! She was alone in the world, shunned by most. It wasn't that great. So Alexandra tended to enjoy being alone. It gave her time to think, time to be in peace without the mocking of the rest of the world ringing in her ears. If they didn't want to get to know her for her than why did she care about them?
The answer came as soon as the question entered her mind. She wanted to be accepted. She didn't want to be alone in the world. She wanted someone to talk to and laugh with. She wanted someone to call her friend, to spend her day with. Someone who would want her to stay in one place and not spend her life traveling from place to place, living off the world around her, depending on others who would actually help her. Alexandra Kay Watson wanted a friend.
Alexandra sighed. That would never happen. Being a half-elf, she was shunned by most. She would never be accepted, she might as well deal with it, move on. She was a wanderer, it's what was in her blood. She was meant to travel. She couldn't stand sitting still, she had to move around, travel the world. Even if she didn't like it, it was part of who she was. Nothing could change that. So she might as well just enjoy the beautiful day.

Eva was almost dozing in her cozy warmth when then sound of foot crunched leaves, and the dull thump of a stick, paced the ground. In a dazed moment she almost felt it as a rhythm and less a real sound. It reminded her of a heart beat, faint but still enough to pulse through her tree. So in tune with the elements the vibrations carried through her. It was not untill a sharp snap from a dried branch, broken under foot fall, that she opened here eyes. Loosing her touch with nature and her security she scanned the world below for life. Eyes coming to fall upon the half elf covered by a dark cloak.
Eva's human prejudiced took over and she ground her teeth in distaste for the, as far a she could tell, human visitor. Many of her people would sooner talk with said stranger and after acquaintance pass judgment. Not this hybrid. Nimbly climbing down a few branches to get a clear look she grabbed ammunition on the way. A fair sized acorn should do the trick. Keeping he steps light and avoiding the leaves she snuck into position and sat. Without much of a warning she weighed the acorn in her hands as if to judge it. Then with a grin of approval hurled the acorn with marksman skill at the back of the cloaked head passing below her.
Now to say Eva was cruel would be unfair. Unless that is it came to be about her and the human race. Any other species was actually ok in her books. Though many of them deserved the same anger, just as many humans did not. Years of hurt from he mothers death at her human fathers expense, and sights of thieves and brigands on the forest edge only turned the human race into a demon before her young mind. This little half-fairy would gladly take on any human, any time, and show no mercy.

Alexandra was enjoying this walk. It was a nice day, the sun was bright, and the crunch of leaves under her feet sounded nice to her. She easily slipped into a trance like state, her mind wandering off to who know's where. She was simply walking, putting one foot in front of the other. The sounds of nature rung in her ears, a great melody that no one could ever match. A lazy smile stretched across her lips, and she knew this day would be enjoyable, so long as she was by herself.
Then she felt something sharp sting the back of her head. She turned around, the steady rhythm of her footsteps and walking stick falling into silence. She looked down to see an acorn laying at her feet. Who had thrown an acorn at her? And what was the point of that? Her sharp eyes scanned the forest around her, looking for the culprit of this acorn-throwing. She didn't see anything, and the trees provided a great cover. For all she knew, they could have run off already. But she kept watching, sure they were still around. She wasn't going to give them the satisfaction of getting away, so she would keep looking for them until she found them.

Eva chuckled to herself as she watched the other look for her. Stupid human, with pitiful eyes and dulled senses. Or so she thought, so with a bit of foolish confidence she jumped down a branch to grab another acorn. Looking it over she waited for the right moment. Watching the figure below her look around and fall silent. Straining in vain to see the small woman hidden in the trees. Eva leaned over the branch to look down at her target.
"Thats right swivel and spin and try to find me" she thought with a laugh daring to brake her silence. She would enjoy this next throw even better, the second was aways best. Yet whomever this was below her did not turn and shrug off the assault. No, her thought to be human was persistent and stayed, scanning for the tosser. A dedication Eva was not expecting from the 'low life' human. Maybe she had been wrong, maybe her quarry was not human at all. Wizard or elf perhaps? Of course not, and Elf was light on there feet and those of magic would have no need for forest walk. Also could find her easily what with her having trickles of magic herself. Had to be human.
Stretching her arm a bit she readied for plan B. Instead of another shot to the back of the head, she would instead plant one on the front. Taking aim she hurled the second shot. Straight at Alexandra's forehead. Square between the eyes.

Alexandra steadied her breathing, making the silence of the forest around her all the more profound. Yes, the birds were chirping and there were the other sounds of nature, but Alexandra didn't hear any of them. All she heard was silence. Then there came a small laugh, quiet and almost unnoticable. It would have gone unnoticed by a human, but Alexandra wasn't human, and her ears picked up the keen whistle of the second acorn before it hit her. She sidestepped, and looked as it landed in the bushes surrounding her. Who was throwing acorns at her? Why was someone so intent on hurting her?
Alexandra thought back to the quiet laugh and looked back to where she had thought it had come from. She looked through the branches and caught a small glimpse of a girl in the trees. Why was she throwing acorns at her? Alexandra stepped forward, never taking her eyes off the girl. Once she had a clear view of her, she stopped, waiting to see what she would do next.

Eva noticed the perk of attention and the dodge of her acorn got her wondering. No human that she knew of moved with that speed, nor was well equip enough to have hear her had that been her give away. Not only did this frustrate her, but she was also spotted. Seen by her target, she had watched those eyes scan and lock on herself. Who was this wanderer. What breed walked like a human but reacted like an elf? She had to know.
Knowing she was not in sight but also not having seen a weapon drawn after the sighing or the acorns she felt safe to walk along the branch into good view. Crouching she looked down at the woman below her "What are you doing in OUR forest?" she demanded but not in a cruel way, more like a solider manner. She may hate humans but she was a herself a respectable fairy. Even without wings and human blood.
Watching the woman below her for any sign of danger, or retaliation. Her legs strong and keeping her balance as she crouched. Even with the breeze still rattling the leaves around her. Her short hair blowing around her stern face. Built arms crossed over her chest and slim fingers tapped over her arm as if impatient. She wanted and answer, and she unlike most fairies, was not afraid to be demanding and ridged. She just hoped that her lack of wings was still hidden by the shimmer and shake of the foliage around her.

Alexandra looked at the young girl. She seemed to be a fairy, but ALexandra couldn't tell her wing color as the branches blocked her view. She seemed to be tight mannered, and obviously didn't like other people in the forest. Alexandra wondered what her problem was, but even for her bad feelling towards the girl, she answered respectfully.
"I did not know this forest was owned by anyone. I was just going for a walk, trying to reach the other side without the attention that comes with humans and elves. I prefer solitude, and the forest is one of the only places I can get that. I would not have come if I had known it was owned, and if you will allow me, I will quickly exit your forest," Alexandra said. She gave a slight bow, and waited to see what the girl would answer.

Eva realized who ever this was, did not mean harm and so she cooled her jets a bit and sat down. “its not MY forest, a forest is always its own. But my people do live here, got to make sure they are not under any chance of danger”. Keeping in the shelter of the flickering leaves to hide her wingless back she cracked her neck. “so what bring a stranger like you into the woods other then a light walk into no where, which I am sure this is not”.
Leaning forward on the branch she just shook her head. “running away? Secret lover to meet with? Which is it?” she asked being a bit nosy. Mostly because heading home meant work and she would rather bother this visitor then go back to the forge. Besides she had throw acorns, why not follow up on the assault. Still she was starting to feel this stranger was not human after all. Far to polite.

Alexandra cocked her head. This was one inquisitive fairy, and Alexandra really hated questions. But she decided that since the fairy lived here, it would probably be best to answer the questions instead of making a scene.
"I'm just trying to take a shortcut to the other side. I don't have a set home, I just travel from place to place. I also don't care for attention, as it brings too many questions that I do not wish to answer. I try to keep to myself, and I would prefer to keep the details of my life to myself, if you don't mind," Alexandra said curtly, yet still very politely. Always politely.

Eva rolled her eyes and stood climbing down a few branches before jumping to the ground and crossing her arms. She forgot that the leaves were hiding her lack of wings. Also that the climb down was not fairy at all. All fairies would have flown down, or flown to a hover to keep of the ground. Eva though was no longer in protection mode and now was in a more, direction giving mode.
Rubbing her eyes a bit before she looked up, Eva sighed. “Well first of all for a short cut, your better off going north east. Second if your just wandering from place to place, why take a short cut. Need to be some were before you can take a quick way there.” she pointed out. “Last of all, don’t you know the world is at war, why on earth would you risk stepping into an enemy camp or scouts, by just going were you please”.
Eva was in some way now trying to help the girl. Second nature maybe. Still she could not help but feel similar to this woman. She knew the need to want to just be alone, to go her own way, and to keep to herself. Being a hybrid had killed the fairy -I want to be center of attention- part of her.

Alexandra's eyes widened as she saw the fairy's lack of wings. A hybrid maybe? But shy hide the fact? Oh, well it didn't matter to her, so why think about it. And why hide it so carefully if she was just going to throw it away like that. And why start helping her all of the sudden?
"Well, I guess it isn't really much of a short cut. It's more of a way to get away from civilization for a while. But of course, I can't stay away forever, so these sort of walks in nothingness are my chances to be alone. And I don't really have a side in this war. I'm more neutral than anything. So I have no enemies in this, no allies. All I have is myself, and that's how it has always been. That's probably how it will always be. No helping that.
"But why do you take such cares to hide the fact that you are hybrid? Just to throw that away as you did? Why throw acorns at a defenseless traveler? Seems sort of rude to me, and I don't think that's the way you actually are. I seem to see you as more of a helpful person, some one fun to have around," Alexandra said. Her curiosity had taken the best of her. She couldn't help but try to find out what was up with the girl before her. You could say it was a protective, second nature sort of thing.

Eva could not believe her ears, how dare this woman claim to have no side. Lives were being lost and she arrogantly acted like it meant nothing. Boundaries re written and peace destroyed, yet she paraded thought he woods on these walks as if to just wait for it to end and cope with the out come. A coward! Hiding her way through life only to pop out into view when it best suited her. This really did not sit well with Evangeline.
Arms crossed fingers tapping in a rhythm over her arm as she waited for this woman to finish speaking. Yet when her hybrid routs were mentioned she cursed under her breath . Well it was out now and at least Alex did not seem to dislike her for it. Next came the assumptions on who she really was. Who was this girl and why did she feel she knew who Eva was. Time to set her straight.
”Who said I was hiding anything?” she started, curious why alex would assume that she was hiding her hybridism. “Next I am only offering a hand because I thought you were lost. Not meandering around avoiding responsibility and ignoring those who are fighting to keep you and me out of slavery or from death”. If there was one thing that set her off it was those who refused to fight no matter which side. “And last of all I throw acorns to discover if you are defenseless or not, or aggressive for that matter. As for you…who ever and what ever you are..you’re a disgrace for not offering your all to help your own kind or side in battle.”

Alexandra stared at the girl. It seemed her not taking a side riled her up pretty quickly. But why should she care? Why did it matter if Alex had a side or not? It was like this girl had mood swings or multiple personalities or something with the way she changed every few seconds.
"Why be so careful to hide your lack of wings? I know how it is to be a hybrid, never really accepted because of your mixed blood, always expected to fail or not be able to do something as well as anyone of pure blood. You see, that's why I stay away from civilization as much as possible. I'm tired of being different, of not being accepted for who I am. I'm tired of being judged because of who my parents were. Call me a disgrace if you wish, but I don't see why I should help them when none of them have ever really helped me. Why should I go out of my way for them when they have only shunned me and ridiculed me? If you can give me a reason on why I should help, then maybe my mind will be changed in this matter and I will choose, but until I have reason enough to choose, I will keep to myself," Alexandra replied. She wondered if this girl really didn't know what it felt like to be shunned because of your parentage. Did the fairies around here accept her, mixed blood and all? Did she really get along with the other people that well? Did she know what it felt like to be shunned and cast aside by all who came around just because you had the unfortunate luck to be born of two races?
