[/ul]
-x- Oran has a fondness for money. Not that he is greedy, but that his line of work simply means that the more money he has, the better he is at his job. Money speaks to a mercenary, and Oran will follow it to wherever it may lead him without question.
-x- Stars. Oran has often counted on them for navigation in dark times. While he does not often sit and gaze to them for some brighter answer to the world’s difficulties, he does enjoy them well enough.
-x- Pipe weed has always been something of a luxury for Oran. He does not get it often, and, for the most part, what he does smoke is a blend of what he can find along the way. All in all, it boils down to ground kingsfoil and mushrooms. While it is a crude mixture and doesn’t rightly taste anything near the bliss of a good farm-grown blend, it is tolerable.
-x- Hunting has been something of Oran’s most joyous pastime, and, even more to his delight, it is often included in his line of work. Oran is a Ranger, and a deceptive one by practice. Often times, it is his contract to hunt and secure information, items, people…Tracking is a wide talent of his.
-x- Oran has absolutely no qualms of being caught in the rain. He feels it is relaxing, a small token the sky has bid for the growth of more kingsfoil and mushrooms.
-x- He enjoys listening. It is interesting to hear what others might say when they don’t think anyone has an ear to them. Oran has been involved in one too many situations in which his careful ears have drawn him to. In many cases, though, they have either ended in a contract, or some form of payment for his silence. Either way, money was good.
-x- His nickname was not hard-earned, but was something of an amusing earning to him, and he grew fond of it. When one thinks of a bard, they think to a minstrel. To some extent, yes, Oran can spin tales of battle, quest, and glory. However, that was not the only reason he’d earned the name. A bard is a minstrel, yes. They are deceivers in that aspect, for that is not their only duty. A bard is equally an unseen, often trusted assassin of the courts. When push came to shove, Oran was not one to ask questions. He had the skills necessary to do that which no other could, and he would remove someone from existence, if the price was right.
-x- Many people would say that Oran is a little…quickened. He has a love for danger. The more probable the risk of injury or death, the more inclined Oran is to taking the job. Some really don’t know why. For Oran, it is more a test of everything he’s done. If he can make just one more kill, escape with his life just one more time, it means the gods have not forsaken him and his skill endures.
-x- Despite all appearances, Oran is a man who does enjoy humor. However, most of it is in spite of others, he, to the very least, finds it rather amusing.
-x- Oran enjoys his solitude. His life has been one of a wanderer, and there have been very few who have actually shared in his life.
DISLIKES .
-x- Oran dislikes questions. Questions are bothersome, they dig to places they do not need to go.
-x- He equally dislikes it when his job becomes more troublesome than it rightly needs to be.
-x- Oran is a decently strong man, though he is built as a very agile fighter. What he dislikes is when he meets a man that can easily double his size and make a fight into something of a bother.
-x- Clearly, Oran has expectations for things to go rather smoothly, and any variables are not out of his ability to handle. When these expectations don’t come to pass, Oran’s love for simplicity and the ability to be rather lazy fails him, and tends to piss him off a little.
-x- Oran has a bit of dislike for other races, and it is seeded from the many judgments passed against humans. Many believe them easy to kill, slander their short lifespan, or discredit them as a non-prosperous race and do not give credit where it is due. Oran is a proud man, and his tongue cuts deep, and he will not hesitate to raise alarm between blood heritage.
-x- Emotions are something of a bother for Oran. He understands the necessary ones and has them, himself, but his annoyances spring from those who hold petty emotion over the simplest of things, such as the slaying of animals or some sort of divine “injustice” to the world. The world is full of injustice. It is something that cannot be fought against, and Oran scorns anyone who might dare try.
-x- Oran is a very typical man, and believes in very simple truths. He does not like women who choose to fight, or wield a sword. He does not enjoy it when things go out of place, and, in his mind, a woman should be at home with children; not taking arms and leading a rebellious life.
-x- He is not fond of ignorance. Possibly one of the reasons Oran dislikes children, to an extent. Ignorance is bliss, but bliss should not be misguided. There are very simple truths to the world, and he lives by them steadfastly. Ignorance blinds you from these truths.
-x- Oran really dislikes it when you handle his weapons. That’s why they are practically attached to him at all times, often concealed, and never far from reach. It would not be a good thing for you to try and take one from him.
-x- He dislikes talking of his father. The reasons behind their disconnection are a mystery, even to those closest to him. He will never turn to the man for help, will never speak to him unless forced, and, to be perfectly honest, Oran would much rather forget the man’s existence, altogether.
STRENGTHS .
-x- Oran is a skilled fighter, both in close quarters and at range. His skill in ambush tactics makes him a deadly, unseen adversary.
-x- The ranger’s tenacity makes him an equally unpredictable and audacious individual. Oran marks it as his mortality as a human. Unlike vampires or elves, a human’s life is very limited. Therefore, it is to Oran to do all he can within his short lifespan, both as a mercenary and as a man.
-x- Oran is truly quite intelligent and has amazing depth for a human. He is complex, rather than choosing to be so linear as most, and, to be perfectly honest, Oran is a good man, though it may take long while to see him as such.
WEAKNESSES .
-x- Oran does not trust easily. In fact, he hardly trusts anything past what his own hand can alter. In this, one would find why the ranger has been alone most of his life.
-x- The lack of a moral compass is truly a weakness for Oran. Often times, inner conflict will arise, though is often quelled simply because it is his job to neither be partial, nor ask questions. Still, even the slightest hesitation could mean his own downfall…
-x- Oran’s “neutrality” only extends as far as the highest bidder wishes it to go. Whoever buys his sword chooses where his talents are displayed. This has given the ranger quite a few enemies to count against him. Not many people understand the difference between a turncoat and a mercenary, and fewer people even care for the difference.
QUIRKS .
-x- It would take quite a lengthy amount of time to fully disarm this ranger. Between a longsword, bow and quiver, two light short swords strapped to his back, three daggers, and an assortment of lighter throwing knives concealed in his bracers, Oran seems to travel for any occasion. He travels light, his armory being the only extent of cumbersome weight on him.
-x- Oran has a stark habit of making light of grave situations. He has something of a lacking when it comes to his moral compass. He does not ask questions, for no questions are asked of him. He merely does that which he is paid for, regardless of circumstance.
-x- Oran’s entire persona is wrapped within layer upon layer of façade, bravado, cynicism, defensive humor, and crude mannerisms. To decide which part of him is truth and which is false is a puzzle to its own right and class. You will only know as much of the man as he desires you to. For the most part, from town to town, the news and knowledge of who the mercenary is changes dramatically.
TALENTS .
-x- Oran is quite the womanizer, when the mood should suit him. He has a large feeling that it is due to the cryptic nature of his work, the manner by which he goes about it, and, of course, the mysterious man behind it all. Oran didn’t see himself as mysterious. He knew who he was, and merely chose to keep others away from that truth. If that made him mysterious, then so be it.
-x- He is an excellent tracker and survivalist, as well as a quick blade and good shot with a bow. Oran is a natural ambush fighter, able to slip through forests with grace and silence, and he is one of silent determination. He has a name to protect, after all. His reputation is carried within every contract he completes.
DEITY .
-x- Oran follows his own set of beliefs, which were taught to him through a set of codex he acquired during an excursion through the Unholy Hills. To discover what it is that Oran sees within the great expanse above, you would have to listen very closely to discover it from him.
ITEMS .
-x- Aside from the arms listed above, Oran travels with light armor in the form of a suede leather hauberk. His bracers are unique in their own right, extending over a small portion of his forearm, making his wrists sturdy and supported for both firing and crossing blades. They also conceal his throwing knives, as well as can secret many other items including keys, small vials, and more.
CAN BE SPOTTED DOING .
-x- One can rarely “spot” Oran. When he is found, it is because you are looking for him. Otherwise, Oran will easily blend into the background, his cloak usually drawn over his face as he would sit against the corner of a busy pub or inn, drinking casually and listening to what news there would be around town.
